Waking Hours by Lisa Wiehl and Pete Nelson

I received an advanced reading e-book copy of Waking Hours by Lisa Wiehl and Pete Nelson published by Thomas Nelson from http://www.booksneeze.com .
The main characters are Tommy Gunderson, a former NFL linebacker, and Dani Harris, a forensic psychologist who is working her first case for the DA.  Her case is a dozy!  A local teenage girl is found gruesomely murdered at a rich boy’s “passage” party and not one of the involved teenagers can recall what happened.  With the assistance of Tommy, her high school crush, and now a PI in training, Dani must discover who is ultimately behind the killing.

This book starts off in a hurry and never slows down.  Not wanting to give away any of the twists throughout the book, I will say the supernatural tones are very spooky as they are subtle and not thrown in the reader's face at every turn. The characters are very well-developed, entertaining and likeable. The dialogue is entertaining, witty, and at times  laugh-out-loud funny, yet stops before the characters become unbelievable and unlikeable.   Tommy's Christian qualities are understated and yet obviously lead to his strong character.  Dani and Tommy’s high school crush, their developing respect and hint of romance, even their family and friend relationships are explored. The plot is intriguing and suspenseful, with unexpected twists that kept me on the edge and wondering how the book would turn out. I enjoyed the author’s insight into how and why the mind fragments and the reader’s discussion questions at the end of the book were very thought provoking.
I can't wait for the next installment in this trilogy and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a supernatural murder suspense novel.

Random Monday Thoughts

Another weekend has passed. Fall is here and the weather is beautiful, we still need a ton of rain to catch up on our yearly requirements, but we have to trust in the Lord to care for us in His time, not ours.  Had to spend the day indoors teaching school.  Still finding it hard to be motivated applying ourselves to school since we've recently had so many exciting outside adventures.  The boys and I spent some time talking about our favorite vacation memories, reliving the moments and planning on next year's trip.  If we decide to go away from the farm for a long visit, we'll have to limit our does in milk and/or plan on drying animals up before we leave.  That is something we will really need to think about as we were going to try to bottle feed more bucket calves this spring, and had planned on having 8 does in milk.  Hmm, we may have to sit out in some 4H projects, glad we have another week to decide on projects for the new year.

Happy Fall!

Today promises to be a great one!  The weather should be perfect, the morning started out with the slight nip of fall and already it is warming up nicely.  Once our school day is finished, we are planning for a nice relaxing rdie through the woods....... where the sounds of leather, horse and kids will break the silence.
After the ride, reality will come rushing back and it will be time to hit the chores...... we'll need to haul some hay bales to the pastures and this weekend will be full of animal maintainence.  It is time to worm, trim hooves and do the fall-checks on the goats and cattle.  We'll be starting our breeding season in a few weeks and need to be sure all are in peak condition.
Back to school for now!

Just Starting Out

This is my first attempt at blogging....... who said you can't teach an old dog a new trick?  Well, it sure is tougher than with a young pup!

I already know that I'll not blog frequently or on a regular basis, 'cause like this blog is called........ around here, there is Always Something Going On!!!

Enjoy the last day of summer and I'll try to post on the first day of fall!
